The relationship between Koenigsegg and the United States homologation rules has always been a bit murky. To this day, there are very few Koenigsegg owners in the States, most of them not even being able to drive their cars on the road.

The details of the Koenigsegg Agera R ban in the US were never fully unfolded to the public. There could be several reasons for it, and some are considered ridiculous by the enthusiasts of the Koenigsegg brand.

However, the most probable speculation is the fuel management system of the Agera R, which we mentioned earlier. It utilizes a certain kind of fuel that is not available for the purchase of the public in some states, denying the Agera R of the passage of emissions regulations.

There are other specifics of the homologation rules that the Agera R supposedly could not meet. Nevertheless, Koenigsegg did not give up on the dream of the North American market. They aimed to sell street legal Agera models to their potential customers in the United States, and they did.

The Agera RS featured increased power output, higher rpm limits, and a tremendous amount of downforce (precisely 450 kg at 250 KPH). Koenigsegg perfected the Agera design with an ever lower curb weight than the previous R variant and added upgraded side air outlets. They employed their latest technology in the making of the material used in the RS.

Koenigsegg followed up the completion of the Agera RS assembly line with the release of the Regera model, yet another globally street-legal hypercar.
